Chung-Wei Huang is a Lecturer in the Media and Communication Studies Department at UMBC, where she teaches courses in filmmaking, screenwriting, and media literacy. An award-winning filmmaker originally from Taiwan, Chung-Wei is passionate about storytelling that delves into personal struggles and social commentary, offering nuanced and thought-provoking perspectives. Her work spans narrative films and dance for the camera, exploring the complexities of human connections and lived experiences.
Chung-Wei’s films have been featured at top-tier film festivals, including the Cleveland International Film Festival, LA Shorts International Film Festival, VC Film Festival, The Female Eye Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, and more. She has received recognition and support for her work, including the Rubys Artist Grant for Days without End and funding from the Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund for Squeegee Boy, which is currently in festival circuits. In addition to her creative work, Chung-Wei was a semifinalist for the Sondheim Artscape Prize and a Baker Artist Award winner.
Holding an MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University, where she received the Presidential Fellowship, Chung-Wei brings her experience as a filmmaker to the classroom, inspiring her students to tell impactful stories through the lens of media and film.
